2121 (Abingdon) Squadron RAF Air Cadets is a youth organisation which supports those aged 12 years, in school year 8, or above to gain experiences around aviation, first aid, Duke of Edinburgh Award, outdoor activities, and more.
We are a friendly and supportive squadron located on Whitecross (OX13 6BU), parading between 7pm and 9.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We provide opportunities which build life-long confidence, friendships, and personal skills.
Life as an Air Cadet can be challenging and requires commitment but nonetheless rewarding. Cadets get to do some amazing things. Over the past months, Cadets have been flying and gliding, completed courses in First Aid and lifesaving skills, visited Abingdon Fire Station, held an open evening (run and managed by the Cadets) and is now starting to enjoy the later evenings by doing more outdoors activities; to include cooking, making camp and sports and personal fitness.
Joining 2121 (Abingdon) Squadron takes place three times a year, with our next intake in September 2022, and we publicise all information through our website (2121.org.uk). New Cadets complete basic training before they complete the enrolment ceremony, and can then take part in all off squadron activities that we offer and start to focus on skills they wish to learn and become expert in, using our Progressive Training Syllabus.
Activities, in addition to those already mentioned, include Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM), radios and communications, local and national camps, drill and marching, public events such as November’s Remembrance Day Parade, cyber, teaching, music, and BTEC qualifications too.
We provide all uniform apart from socks, shoes, and boots and we have possible support available for these costs if required. Most camps and activities have a minimal cost, if at all, and attending Squadron has a small subscription cost to help us pay for activities and equipment used by Cadets.
As well as Cadets, we are always on the lookout for adults to join our staff team or committee to help us deliver the high-quality service which the Cadets expect.
