It is thirty years since Oxfordshire registered charity (CIO) The Abingdon Bridge was established to offer free support to young people in the area aged 13 to 25 years old. Originally conceived as a Drop-In Centre where young people could congregate instead of hanging around street corners, it soon became clear that many of the young people also needed guidance and support to help them enhance their life skills and general wellbeing in an ever-changing world.

The Abingdon Bridge responded to this need by employing specialist counsellors and youth workers who could work alongside some of the most vulnerable young people who had come to them for support.

Since they were established back in 1993, The Abingdon Bridge has become a valuable community resource, offering support across South Oxfordshire and The Vale of the White Horse area. The charity prides itself in supporting those most hard to reach or disadvantaged. They are very much a client-led organisation, always looking to see how they can meet the shifting challenges which young people face on a daily basis.

Their free services include:

  • 1-to-1 counselling
  • Psychoeducational group work
  • 1-to-1 wellbeing support
  • Educational workshops
  • Outreach programmes

As The Abingdon Bridge celebrates their 30th birthday, they have launched a ’30 @ 30’ campaign asking for 30 local individuals or companies to fundraise (or donate) £1,000 each, to raise a total of £30,000 for The Abingdon Bridge. Could you become one of those 30? Just think, this could provide you and your company with the ideal opportunity to hold a Team Building event whilst raising some much-needed funds for a great local charity.

"So far we've had a great response from the local community, however we are still looking for several individuals or organisations that can help. Please do watch our promotional video, available on our website to see what a difference TAB makes and be part of our future" Gary Hibbins, CEO.

In return for your support, The Abingdon Bridge would like to offer a workshop, tailored to the requirements of your team. You are also most welcome to visit their headquarters at 3 Marketplace, Abingdon OX14 3HG to see where they deliver their amazing work. To find out more about the ’30 @ 30’ campaign, take a look at the charity’s campaign video which is available on their website theabingdonbridge.org.uk

Money raised from the campaign will go towards continuing the valuable work The Abingdon Bridge does across South Oxfordshire and the Vale of the White Horse.

If you would like to get involved and become one of the 30, please contact info@abingdonbridge.org.uk or call 01235 522375. You can also find out more about The Abingdon Bridge by visiting their Facebook page at facebook.com/TheAbingdonBridge

Many of us have clothes hanging in our wardrobe that we no longer wear. That does not mean to say there is anything wrong with them but perhaps they no longer fit, your lifestyle has changed, and you no longer require business clothes to wear to work or you are simply bored with them. Now, thanks to an initiative organised by Sustainable Wantage and Grow Families, you can be part of a Clothes Swap taking place at Wantage Methodist Church in Newbury Street on Saturday 19th October.
