About The Abbey Cinema
For over 30 years, Abingdon didn’t have a cinema, until finally in 2018 the Abbey Cinema opened its doors on Abbey Close, just under the archway from the Market Place. Showing all the best new film releases as well as a host of live events including comedy, bands and social events, the Abbey cinema truly transformed Abingdon Town. The seats are luxurious, with candle-lit tables and full table service for food and drinks throughout the show, and a stylish circle bar for pre-drinks, cocktails, craft beer and wine. The best thing about the cinema, how- ever, is not just the comfort, and not the huge screen, but the way they look after customers and make guests feel at home. The team are super friendly, employing only local staff. They also like to dress up and have parties, so for the best night out, take a visit.
Silver Screen at The Abbey Cinema
Are you lucky enough to have the time to enjoy a lunchtime or matinee show? Then Silver Screen is for you. With concession prices for those who are over retirement age, and classic favourites scheduled alongside new releases, everyone is welcome at The Abbey Cinema’s Silver Screen. Usually on a Tuesday lunchtime, treat yourself with a glass of wine and a spot of lunch during the film, or a cup of coffee and a delicious slice of cake. All this, and you can still get home before it gets dark. For matinee per- formances, delicious traditional Afternoon Tea is on offer, with a selection of teas, sandwiches and cakes all served on vintage cake stands. Better than the Ritz? We think so.
Dementia Screenings at The Abbey Cinema
Working with the Dementia Abingdon support group, The Abbey Cinema work to give people living with dementia and importantly, their carers, a stress-free social and networking experience. Shows follow all the Alzheimer’s Society guidelines in terms of providing low lighting, the right choice of film, and plenty of time to arrive and settle down. Enjoy tea, coffee and cake before and during the film. These ‘relaxed screenings’ and are also suitable for people living with autism or those who just want a nice, relaxed time out.
Parent And Babies at The Abbey Cinema
The Scream Screens are picking up nicely again, showing all the latest films rated 12A and under, so you can enjoy some quality time with your baby. The babies usually go to sleep in the warm comfort of the luxury auditorium, but if anyone yells, there’s no shame – everyone else is in the same boat. Baby changing facilities are available at the front of the auditorium and you can bring in your buggy and all the baby stuff next to your seat. It’s a nice way to spend time together, meet other parents and give your baby an outing.
