Fluid and Flowing Art

Jayne Hughes is an Oxfordshire-based artist who works with acrylics and alcohol ink. Currently working in Faringdon, Jayne was born in London in 1967 and moved to Witney the following year.

Jayne attended Emma's Dyke Primary School where art was high on the agenda. Whether it was boiling up sheep heads to sketch, sculpting with clay, tie dying or having the first experience of fluid art in the guise of suminagashi, there was always something arty to do. This continued outside of school where her dad gave art lessons to herself and friends in their garage. Jayne’s dad remained her biggest supporter both in school and in later life.

From primary school, Jayne went on to Henry box and studied for her art O level. 30 years later, Suminagashi came to mind and in her research of inks, alcohol inks caught her attention. The vibrancy of the colours was eye catching and – with a lot of trial and error – the most beautiful abstract pictures could be created using a hairdryer and manipulation or painting.

While looking in a local gallery for frames, it was suggested that acrylic pouring might be if interest and with more research it certainly was. Among the mess she could create brighter and more colourful abstract artwork with different techniques being applied for different finishes, the Dutch pour probably being the favourite style.

Jayne also paints abstract seascapes, exploring texture and colour, always inspired by nature and a love of the sea. Jayne occasionally exhibits at art fairs, but all of her work can be found online on Facebook, Instagram and her own website Aleatoria gallery.

All of her artwork is original and affordable, it will add a splash of colour to any room in your home or office and a few prints are available. Through the Facebook page she occasionally does offers so it is worth joining the group to keep up with the latest offers or fundraisers for animal welfare organisations.

If you can’t find anything to match your colour scheme, send her a message to see if you can have some work done in your favoured colours and each picture will be totally unique.
