The young people at Didcot Train youth club were delighted to receive a visit from Matthew Barber, Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner at a recent session. Matthew was greeted by the organisation’s CEO, Brian McNamee and the Youth Work Delivery Manager, Alex McSweeney.
The Youth Worker, Charlotte Peters supported the young people in agreeing on the key questions they want to ask Matthew, who was very generous with his time, answering all the young people’s questions and providing a great insight into his role.
“The work of Train Didcot is so important in offering early intervention to young people,” said Matthew, “by giving them a safe space to congregate, raising awareness of societal risks and dangers, and providing positive activities to support them in making better choices going forward.” Brian and Alex both said they hoped Matthew could visit again soon and meet some of our older youth club members to continue such a positive dialogue.
Didcot Train is a registered charity, in its 20th year of providing support, which is open to all young people who live or go to school in Didcot and its immediate surroundings. Didcot Train reaches out, engages, and provides life skills which empower our young people, particularly those who, for whatever reason, may be going through a difficult or tough time. Young people are at the heart of Didcot Train and are vital to creating a positive community in Didcot.
