Sleigh2Give eight has launched for 2022 and we are calling on our wonderful community of supporters to get behind their annual Christmas present drive to help spread cheer, joy, and smiles in abundance to others less fortunate.

Each year Sleigh2Give – the festive arm of Play2Give – provides presents to poorly children in hospital, low-income families in Didcot, the less well off, those with disabilities and the vulnerable. In 2021, they raised around £50,000 in value of gifts which was given out to a wide number of organisations, families, and individual children - this year they’re aiming to do just as well, if not better to mark their milestone birthday year – but they need your help.

In December 2020, 75 presents for 75 children – supported by Home-Start Southern Oxfordshire – were distributed. As well as this, over 200 new storybooks and toys for Home-Start Oxford and over 50 gifts through the Didcot Foodbank for financially struggling families were provided. Oxford Children's Hospital received a £500 donation as part of their virtual gift appeal, which helped the Play team to purchase a wide range of Lego sets, art and craft sets, games and festive teddy bears for the children in the hospital and the children's ward at Banbury, ensuring that no sick child in hospital over the festive period went without a present.

Last December for a second year running, our Patron and MP for Wantage and Didcot, David Johnston OBE, played a helping hand by helping to deliver gifts with Andy to Headway Oxfordshire and for struggling families at the Didcot food bank. A huge thank you to David for his amazing support and for taking time from his Parliamentary duties on the last Friday before Christmas.

The number of people using Witney Foodbank is likely to increase as the cost of living crisis continues to bite and people struggle to pay household bills and find sufficient money to feed themselves, their children and their pets.

How many times do we have an item which no longer works but only requires a simple fix to bring it back to life?

Many of us have clothes hanging in our wardrobe that we no longer wear. That does not mean to say there is anything wrong with them but perhaps they no longer fit, your lifestyle has changed, and you no longer require business clothes to wear to work or you are simply bored with them. Now, thanks to an initiative organised by Sustainable Wantage and Grow Families, you can be part of a Clothes Swap taking place at Wantage Methodist Church in Newbury Street on Saturday 19th October.
