The national Great Big Green Week runs from the 8th to the 16th June and this year’s theme will be celebrating swaps – from clothes to book swaps, skill swaps in allotments or upcycling workshops, to knowledge swaps on discussion panels or wildlife reserves.

Initiated in September 2021, the Great Big Green Week was the largest UK wide event for climate and nature ever seen. As the event grows in popularity year on year, it draws together organisations, institutions, businesses and local communities, all working together to actively put pressure on the government to improve what it is planning in order to tackle climate change.

Thanks to Faringdon Town Council, the local community living in and around Faringdon will be able to learn more about how you can help make your town more sustainable, and eco-friendly. On Saturday 15th June, from 10am to 1pm, the Corn Exchange will be where you can be part of the Big Green Day event.

The event will bring together a number of green projects and businesses located in and around Faringdon. You will be able to buy sustainable products, find eco-conscious brands and learn how you can become involved in local initiatives to help tackle climate change.

We need to be able to swap polluting fossil fuels for affordable renewable energy and look for sustainable ways to tackle the cost of living crisis, collectively creating a safer, stronger economy, generating a world that works for everyone.

To find out more about how solar and wind power works, the Westmill Wind Farm and Solar Park at Watchfield is holding an event on Sunday 16 June from 2pm until 3.30pm when you will have the opportunity to learn more about this pioneering community energy hub. You will need to prebook eventbrite.co.uk/e/westmill-wind-farm-and-solar-park-guided-tour-tickets.

Completed in 2011, Westmill combines both wind and solar community-owned electricity generation on one site and this unique solar park was the first community-owned project of its kind in the UK. The site has five turbines and over twenty-thousand solar panels and the tour will offer visitors the opportunity to understand how a wind farm and solar park works. Westmill Energy will also be delivering a talk in the Old Town Hall at Faringdon’s Big Green Day, everyone is welcome.

The number of people using Witney Foodbank is likely to increase as the cost of living crisis continues to bite and people struggle to pay household bills and find sufficient money to feed themselves, their children and their pets.

How many times do we have an item which no longer works but only requires a simple fix to bring it back to life?

Many of us have clothes hanging in our wardrobe that we no longer wear. That does not mean to say there is anything wrong with them but perhaps they no longer fit, your lifestyle has changed, and you no longer require business clothes to wear to work or you are simply bored with them. Now, thanks to an initiative organised by Sustainable Wantage and Grow Families, you can be part of a Clothes Swap taking place at Wantage Methodist Church in Newbury Street on Saturday 19th October.
