With a new Artweeks exhibition and a fresh community art competition in addition to their usual activities, Faringdon Art Society intends to celebrate its 60th year. New events to celebrate this milestone with the community, in addition to the always-welcomed Annual Exhibition, are being planned.

An Oxfordshire Artweeks exhibition within the township in Old Town Hall will be open to the public in late May. In collaboration with Faringdon Town Council, who is sponsoring the venue hire, Faringdon Art Society will be managing the exhibition and the participating artists. Facilitation by Oxfordshire Artweeks has been appreciated by both organisations. A portion of all sales is to be given to Folly Tower Trust.

Under the Artweeks group ‘Faringdon Artists’, ten artists are preparing for their display of hanging art and 3D pieces. You will discover a wide variety of styles by Sally Barnes, Niranjana Basappa, Trisha Drury, Susy Fuentes, Manchula Foulkes, Ruth Gerring, Anne Mills, Helen Pakeman, Seija Wentworth, and Peter Wheeler. Chloé Romanos will be featured in the Council’s Information Centre, just a few steps from Old Town Hall. A visit to Faringdon during Artweeks can be all that more interesting!

Members of the Society will also be found during Artweeks in Great Coxwell and at the National Trust’s Heritage and Rural Skills Centre at Coleshill. Explore artweeks.org to plan your days out.

Faringdon Art Society was established in 1964 and has staged an annual art exhibition that has always enjoyed local interest and visits. One popular feature of this event is the public vote, and it is this fun activity that will be repeated for a community art competition to be held in September. As preparations are at an early stage at time of publication, details will be added to the website soon: faringdonartsociety.co.uk

The informal Drop In, for anyone who would like to find some creative space or to spend a little time with like-minded people, is open to all on Wednesdays 10am to 12pm in Faringdon United Church during term time. Cost is £4 including a tea or coffee. Contact details are on the Society’s website, or just drop in!
