DJ, busking promoter, photographer and the man in the hat, Al ‘Citizen’ Cane gets lost in music, updating us here on the goings on in Faringdon’s rich music scene.
Peter Wentworth - what a character
Faringdon lost one of its funniest and quirkiest characters in early January with the sad passing of Peter Wentworth. He was well known for his love of magic, Music Hall, his sense of humour and his ability to lift people’s spirits. In recent years he created an entertaining tour around the town called Berners’ Bizarre Walk incorporating some magic, some history, and some silliness. He threw himself into helping others in the community, at both the Folly Tower and the Faringdon Community Bus, or turning up to entertain doing his version of Lord Berners. RIP Peter, there was no-one like you, a spark of humour and light has gone out in the town.
Flamenco Jazz at The Swan
Expect a mellower mood with jazz trio Manos Puestas appearing at The Swan on Saturday 25 February from 8.30pm playing for the first time in the town. They have been playing together as a duo, trio and sometime a quartet all over the country.
Young Rosie gigging again
Power trio and local favourites Young Rosie released a new single called ‘Without You’ on download at the beginning of February, it can also be found on Spotify and they make a welcome return to The Swan on Saturday 11 March.
Faringdon Record Fair returns
The Faringdon Record Fair returns on Saturday 22 April, from 10 to 2, in and around the Old Town Hall in the Market Place. A definite for lovers of all things vinyl, there are some top notch sellers coming alongside some community stalls. Expect a little music in the air too.
Faringdon’s main musical and cultural event of the year is now just a few short months away and will be happening this year over the weekend of Friday 7th to Sunday 9th July. Not many details of who’s on where have been released yet, except the three headline closing acts on the main stage. Friday night at 10, Rage Against The Regime, on the Saturday at the same time the return of last year’s show stoppers King Awesome and finally on the Sunday afternoon at 5pm the long awaited return of Boogie Me to the main stage to close out FollyFest. Expect details to be released over the next few weeks and months ahead and look out for the best of Faringdon’s djs all weekend on the Crown Courtyard stage.
