How a local business owner created the office space she wanted but couldn’t find.

When HR specialist and entrepreneur, Laura Callahan, decided to look for a small office to rent for her thriving business and growing team, she struggled to find what she wanted. When I started looking, I was shocked at how complicated it all was. Nothing was available for less than a three-year lease and much of what I saw was boring and plain and I couldn’t picture ever wanting to bring clients there.

During her search, she stumbled across 11 and 12 Market Place for sale, a three-storey eighteenth-century building in dire need of restoration, in the centre of Faringdon. That is when she decided she would buy the building and design her own office space.

Setting out to create a more bespoke and luxurious space was what led to the creation of Workspace at Market Place, a flexible workspace supporting professional people to work how they want, in the comfort they deserve. ‘I wanted to create a beautiful office space that had all the modern tech and make it all available on a monthly rental basis.’ says Laura.

The Grade II listed Georgian building that is now home to Workspace at Market Place has been lovingly restored by Laura and her team, from a semi-derelict shell to a modern gem that oozes charm and style.

Now open for business the offices are rented on short-term contracts to allow for the flexibility often needed by small businesses or companies transitioning to hybrid working. ‘As a small business owner, I didn’t know if I would still need an office in three months, let alone in three years,’ says Laura, ‘so I wanted Market Place to be super-flexible and a space where people can come and go according to their business needs.’

There are no compromises at Market Place, either. It hosts the perfect partnership between practicality and beauty, boasting charming fireplaces, sculptures, and hand-made solid wood tables, sitting comfortably alongside a 75-inch TV, plug sockets everywhere you could possibly need them and super-fast broadband.

Laura’s vision for Market Place was based on years of experience using shared working spaces and meeting rooms. ‘We’ve made it into a space you’d be proud to bring your clients,’ says Laura. ‘You can arrive, put down your bag and get started within minutes.’

Businesses large and small who want characterful office and meeting space on their terms can now book online. ‘Workspace at Market Place will adapt and evolve to meet the needs of its clients,’ says Laura. ‘But offering flexibility and being easy to do business with will always be at the heart of what we do.’
