Reflexology for Menopause – How can it help you?

Every menopause experience is unique, and for some, going through this transition can severely affect quality of life. While menopause is a perfectly natural process, 8 out of 10 women experience some symptoms with the most common being hot flushes and night sweats. So, how can reflexology help?

The origins of reflexology date back to Ancient Egypt, India and China, and was introduced to the West in the early 1900s. Today it is a well-established and recognised non-invasive complementary therapy that uses the application of pressure on reflexology points of the feet, hands and face. These reflexology points correspond to different parts of the body, rebalancing the area of the body to which these points relate. The theory and practice of reflexology is to help the body restore its balance naturally. As reflexologists we cannot claim that reflexology treats the menopause; it is designed to provide relaxation and ease symptoms while supporting women with their journey.

Reflexology can be effective in promoting deep relaxation and wellbeing, improving mood and releasing tension and using this method can help to reduce stress, which in turn optimises good health. With our ever increasing levels of stress and responsibility in everyday life, it is so important that we actively take control to reduce our stress levels

As reflexologists we are there during a reflexology session not only to focus on the treatment at hand, but to listen and support, offer general lifestyle advice and refer when necessary. I have found that reflexology clients who have also been able to take on lifestyle changes, such as nutrition and exercise, tend to achieve the best results.

Rachel offers reflexology treatments at her home studio in Faringdon, at The Health Box in Lechlade as well as a mobile service within the surrounding villages.
