The Pump House Project: Community Fridge and Cupboard

Community Cupboard Opening Times and Info v6uooo

Our Community Fridge was set up in 2023 and is run by staff and volunteers and supported by Aldi and Tesco.

Open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm the fridge is stocked up with donations from the local supermarkets. Fruit, Vegetables and Breads being amongst the content.

Visitors in need of a helping hand are welcomed to the fridge once a day and asked that they only take what they can consume in 24 hours – tomorrow is another day and you are welcome to visit again then. Please do not be greedy – if there are two items, only take one and leave the other for someone else whose need may be greater than yours. Anyone in a position to leave a small donation can follow the directions to do so – all donations go back into the running of the service.

There are clear rules and conditions printed on the fridge and we ask that everyone that uses the Fridge be polite and respectful of the area and others. CCTV is in operation.

The Cupboard was established at the start of lockdown and run once a week from our hall. Jump forwards 4.5 years and the Cupboard is fully stocked and available 5 days a week.

The Community Cupboard is stocked with dried and ambient foods, cleaning and hygiene products donated by Aldi and Tescos and the local community.

Users are able to visit the Cupboard once a week and other than the question ‘how many people are you feeding?’ we ask for nothing more – just that you bring your own bags.

The phone number to book a ‘shop’ is 01367 243245 and a day and time will be arranged for you to come down to the Cupboard. We go through with the user the content of the cupboard allowing them choice in the foods they take home. As part of this service we aim to ensure that each user leaves with one or two meat meals for the week in addition to their cupboard staples (where available) should they wish too. We encourage our users to visit the Community Fridge on their way down to the Cupboard and where possible will assist them in to creating meals around the fresh produce they have chosen.

As with everything we supply, all items are donated and we are always in need of more to meet demand. The Fridge sees visitors of up to 50 individuals every day and we feed, on average, 30 families every month from our Cupboard.

If you are able to make a donation or wish to volunteer your time please contact Sarah, the Project Manager on 01367 243245 / sarah.stoves@thepumphouseproject.org.uk

Everything supplied is a gift and not a given – we do not know what the supermarkets will have left over to donate so please follow us on facebook if you can – we regularly post updates of the fridge and should there be no donations that day will put a post up notifying you.
