Tearoom Bambi Pop-Up

Owned by pȃtissière extraordinaire Angelica and her son Matias (who cares for Bambi and keeps her on the road), Bambi came about as an idea in the Winter of 2021 when Angelica decided it was time to do what she loves best and get baking.

“This was a complete career change for me,” Angelica explains. “I had been working as a freelance translator following a career in the RAF as an airwoman when I decided it was time to follow my dream and create the most wonderful cakes to give people pleasure and put a smile on their faces. Matias and I found a vehicle which had originally served as a Smith’s Ice Cream van from around 1965 and which had subsequently been fitted with a replacement cab, taking it from a Bedford CA to a 1991 Ford Transit. The pair had plans for their little ‘Bambi’ as the vehicle was christened and they got their vintage mobile tearoom on the road in August 2022. Since then, we have visited venues all over Oxfordshire and can be booked for private events too.”

Amongst Angelica’s repertoire of extra-ordinary and delicious baked products, she creates exquisite French Japanese fusion cakes and cookies for Weddings, Birthdays and Corporate events, as well as her pop-up patisserie on wheels. Bambi also serves Crepes, Waffles, Ice-cream, Drinks and Japanese Curry! They can also provide Vintage Afternoon Tea (with or without waiting staff) along with other party food. Her customers post very favourable reviews on both her Facebook and Instagram pages.

“We have managed to create a business with a conscience. We both love animals and are both vegetarians so everything we sell is vegetarian or vegan friendly. We prioritise sustainable and ethical trading, providing high quality food and drink to suit a range of diets and lifestyle choices. We use locally sourced products together with recyclable or compostable packaging wherever possible. We also offer a wide range of Japanese cakes and desserts which are quite different to British ones in terms of texture, ingredients and appearance. As there are so many traditional bakers around, we thought it would be nice to do something different. Japanese food in general is healthier than Western Food and it’s the same even for cakes! Our Strawberry Shortcake is equivalent to Victoria Sponge but contains only half the sugar but is still satisfying and definitely a feast for the eyes. Our Gluten-free Caramel Chiffon Cake is another popular choice with our customers. Its texture is often described as ‘eating like clouds’ as the sponge is so soft unlike any GF products you find in supermarkets.”

Look out for Tearoom Bambi at the following locations: 3 to 5 May at the 9th Lechlade Annual Vintage Rally & Country Show, 18 May Witney Festival of Food and Drink, 13 July at Grove Charity Car Truck and Bike Show and 15 September at Bubble Rush at Cokethorp School.

Angelica takes orders for a wide variety of celebration cakes, cupcakes, and other fabulous, sweet treats. She is also launching a Grazing Table/Box Service. Email her for a quote at tearoombambi@gmail.com.

When I saw a post on Facebook promoting Scone Baking Demos with the chance to learn how to bake the most delicious scones possible, followed by the opportunity to indulge in a traditional English afternoon tea, I was intrigued and wanted to know more. What I discovered when I visit chezbeccy.com is that Beccy Hunt is a lady who has a passion for baking, and I decided it was time to have a chat with her to find out more.

Many of the properties in Buscot are owned by the National Trust including what was once the former village Post Office, but which is now home to Buscot Tearoom run by Daniella and her husband Nick. The cottages within the village once housed the people who worked on the estate at nearby Buscot Park and the building which is now the Tearoom dates back to the 1880’s.
