The Big Jubilee Lunch in Wantage Market Place on Sunday, 5 June is predicted to be one of the largest events that the Town has ever seen. As part of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the Town Centre will be closed from early morning with a full programme of entertainments from 10.30am-4pm.
In addition, a large quantity of picnic tables and seating is being provided by the Town Council in order to create a ‘right royal occasion’ for all ages. Families can bring their own food and drink or purchase it from the several food and drink providers around the Square. These include a Hog Roast and a Licensed Bar.
Wantage Silver Band will march into the Town Square at 10.30am and after an address by the Town Mayor, activities will commence. Acts on the large, covered stage include The Vintage Sweethearts, Wantage Big Band (Swing Music with vocalist), Wantage Rock Choir, Free 4 All and Little Green Shed (a Wantage Legend!) Groups plus other performances by the American Dance School of Wantage.
The massive event is being arranged by Town Centre Manager, Andrea Yates and her team. “I am thrilled to be part of this most remarkable occasion,” says Andrea. “70 years reigning as our monarch is a piece of history, I am proud to have seen, (well, 50 years of it!) I remember the Diamond Jubilee and the awful weather, but we came out as a family and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We really hope to see many of our community come out and be part of this fabulous party. There’s something for everyone.”
Free Children’s entertainment is also being provided with traditional Fair Rides, Face Painting, Body Art, and Balloon Modelling. Everyone is invited to impress and brighten up the Market Place with red, white, and blue!
