The Ray Collins Charitable Trust

Making a Real Difference in Our Community

divider

On Sunday 4 June, The Ray Collins Charitable Trust organised for the tenth year the Wantage Carnival. A glorious day bathed in beautiful sunshine was enjoyed by the approximately 5,000 members of our community of all ages.

A huge thank you to all the bands, Growler, Horizon, The White Lakes and Mother Girth JT Productions for the PA system and Rock Choir for their brilliant performance and to the WSB for leading the parade, Grove Scouts and Beavers and the Rock Choir for taking part in the parade unfortunately a couple of groups had to pull out last minute but hopefully we will have more community groups next year marching along.

All the traders and community groups had a great day and thank you to the thousands of people who attended, smiled, sang, danced, and had fun all day. We also had our lovely new Mayor Cllr Angela Dunford open the event. We were approached by dozens of people complimenting the event, the music, the funfair, and stalls but we know people’s opinions may vary.

All the trustees and volunteers worked for months and some spent 14hrs at the event making sure all went well, and everyone was kept safe. No event is ever perfect and our costs like everything else have risen again this year. Every pound we raise though will go back into the community and help those in need. We are hoping to run four-day trips through the summer for local families, people living in isolation and Ukrainian families in our community.

You can donate to the Trust via our website raycoolinstrust.org or contact info@raycollinstrust.org for more information.

Thank you all for helping us to keep making a real difference in our community.

The number of people using Witney Foodbank is likely to increase as the cost of living crisis continues to bite and people struggle to pay household bills and find sufficient money to feed themselves, their children and their pets.

How many times do we have an item which no longer works but only requires a simple fix to bring it back to life?

Many of us have clothes hanging in our wardrobe that we no longer wear. That does not mean to say there is anything wrong with them but perhaps they no longer fit, your lifestyle has changed, and you no longer require business clothes to wear to work or you are simply bored with them. Now, thanks to an initiative organised by Sustainable Wantage and Grow Families, you can be part of a Clothes Swap taking place at Wantage Methodist Church in Newbury Street on Saturday 19th October.
