There are many different types of events organised to raise money for charities around the county but taking part in a two hour Jamathon dance party is a wonderful way to have a lot of fun, be part of four dance routes whilst enjoying epic music. The Jamathon will be held on Saturday 7 September from 3 to 5pm at Steventon Village Hall, The Green, Steventon OX13 6RR.
We spoke to Al and Carine who are hosting the Jamathon to find out more …
“Al and I decided to use our dance backgrounds and teaching skills to create an afternoon of fun, dance and music,” says Carine. “Al is a Dance Teacher for Betty Bloom Dance, and I am a Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor and also work for NielsenIQ who are also supporting Sobell House Hospice as their 2024 Charity of the Year. Having certified as Les Mills BODYJAM™ dance instructors together, we wanted to share our love of dance by creating opportunities to bring people together for a great cause. A Jamathon is a two hour adult dance event including four routines and is the ultimate combination of dance and epic music. Global sounds include House, Hi-Hop, Drum ‘n’ Bass, Trap and all styles of current Electronic Dance Music. Our event is accessible to all abilities aged 14 or over; we teach a variety of dance styles from Contemporary to Hip-Hop creating a fun filled and inclusive atmosphere in stunning locations across Oxfordshire. To participate, we ask people to register beforehand and request a minimum donation of £10.”
“Registration is free and recommended beforehand but all we ask is for guests to bring their smiles and donations. Participants can dip in and out of the routines at any point and take advantage of the refreshments, snacks and chill out area.”
So, why a Jamathon in support of Sobell House Hospice?
“We have close and heartfelt associations with the care provided by Sobell House Hospice. Whether it’s someone we know and love now or in the future, sadly illness affects so many friends and family members and it’s an incredible charity to support so that they can continue to help others. Our Jamathon events take place across the county and as a well-known and respected local charity, many of our members love and support it.”
“We have raised close to £2,000 for other charities so far, for local schools and hope to create a fun and inclusive atmosphere for people to enjoy a boogie! Dance is so beneficial for our mental and physical health. Improving fitness, coordination and strength, it’s a form of art and expression, releasing endorphins, touching the soul and creating cultural richness, university and diversity, bringing people together with a common language – dance. We have so much fun, please come along!”
The Jamathon organisers are always grateful to receive any match funding opportunities, so please let them know if you’re able to help, thank you!
