“I’m thrilled to be elected as your new MP. I’m immensely grateful to everyone who voted for me and who helped on the campaign, thank you so much. If you didn’t vote for me, no matter, my job is to represent and work hard for everyone in the constituency and I will do my best, both locally and in Westminster.”
“The news came through that I had won very early on the morning for Friday 5th July. It was a fantastic night for the Lib Dems with the 72 MPs voted in, the highest number in more than 100 years. Things moved quickly with the first day of work at Westminster being the following Monday. The induction process into the Commons has been excellent, very professional and well structured. The buildings and their history make a deep impression and that drives home the great responsibility that comes with the role. I have been elected by you all, to represent you and to get things done that help our community and our environment, locally, nationally and internationally.”
“I campaigned for a stronger economy so that we can better fund our public services, including our NHS. I’m worried that Labour is not doing enough to get our economy growing again. I campaigned for better and safer transport solutions along the A40 and A420 corridors and a more coherent housing strategy. I’m deeply concerned by the hugely ramped housing targets that have just been proposed for Oxfordshire without any infrastructure to match. I campaigned to clean up our rivers. The sooner that Thames Water is placed into bankruptcy and restructured, the better. It is vital that the shareholders and their bankers fully pay for their past mistakes, before billpayers and taxpayers have to step in.”
“I have been very busy building a team as quickly as possible. This is critical as the email tap is permanently on (2,500 emails and counting), but as of Day 1, I had neither a team, nor an office, nor much else. Fortunately, I’ve been helped enormously by some very kind and capable volunteers. I’m best reachable on charlie.maynard.mp@parliament.uk. Please do get in touch, but please do bear with us over the next month or two as we hire and build our team. I’m out and about in the constituency a lot and look forward to meeting you.”
