Cogges Manor Farm is a unique historic farmstead in the heart of Witney and well-known locally as a hidden gem with over 1,000 years of history. Set against the stunning backdrop of a 13th century Manor House and Grade II listed 18th-century farm buildings, today Cogges is an award-winning visitor attraction for people of all ages to relax, learn and have fun.
Hear stories from the past as you explore the Manor House. Enjoy the peace of this 17-acre site with naturally beautiful grounds, enchanting walled garden, apple orchard and moated islands – it offers the perfect family day out and you can even bring your dog!
Children particularly love seeing the animals, exploring the woodland adventure play area and discovering wildlife in the meadows with a Cogges tracker pack. Hungry tummies can be refuelled in the rustic Cogges Kitchen café or there are designated picnic areas.
Cogges also plays host to many special events throughout the year, ranging from outdoor theatre, craft fairs and festivals to weddings, adult learning workshops and extra family activities in the school holidays.
Fans of Downton Abbey may be interested to know Cogges is the home of Yew Tree Farm and Mr Drewe, the tenant farmer. Many of the farm scenes in series four, five, and six took place in the grounds. Cogges has also featured in the 2019 film Colette, starring Keira Knightley and Dominic West about the French author Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette.
This year, an exciting community engagement project is underway at Cogges to build a replica Saxon House, thanks to funding from the National Lottery. The project will bring together volunteers, contractors and the community, in order to create a fantastic addition to the Cogges historical story.
Cogges is an easy ten-minute walk from the centre of Witney, or you can park in their free car park (postcode OX28 3FR). Come for the day or buy an annual season ticket and come as often as you want!
