Witney Rugby Club

New club house extension

Witney Rugby Club is a not-for-profit club with the sole purpose of providing rugby facilities and training for West Oxfordshire. We survive on membership and our wonderful sponsors who want to help us with our aims of providing top-quality facilities locally.

We have four men’s sides, a ladies' side, teams from under five to under 18, special educational needs teams, and girl’s teams from under 14 upwards. In fact, we have over 370 youth members.

The club is part of the community, and we often hold non-rugby related events such as the Witney Colour run, parking for the Wychwood forest fair and more recently held a tag tournament for Witney primary schools where 180 children used our facility. We also have Witney Vikings using our pitches due to the lack of space currently available in Witney.

Our players are nearly all home-grown coming up through the junior sides to play senior rugby. Our first team play at level sic which sees them play teams such as Jersey, London Irish Wild Geese, and more local sides such as Reading and Newbury. Match days often see crowds of more than 200 and with parking on site, a cycle shelter and a bus stop right outside the ground, it’s easy to come up and watch.

During the close season, we hold the following events:

  • Tuesday Girls rugby 14-18 years old from 6pm
  • Thursday Mixed touch Rugby 14 years old upwards from 6pm
  • Mixed Walking rugby 18 and above from 7pm this is more suited to the older generation but still fun for all.

These three events are free to play for everyone. Thursday also sees our two teams play in the local Aunt Sally leagues and Friday nights is a great place to have a drink and watch the sunset over the pitches as you look towards Leafields church spire.

For more information whether you want to play or sponsor us take a look at our website witneyrfc.rfu.club or email Witneyrfc@btinternet.com
